"It feels very tender, it has the esparto grass austerity of the stony vineyards with the chalky soils and a myriad of Mediterranean herbs. They used some stems for the fermentation, which added a fine thread and makes it subtly textured. It has the dusty tannins and the saline tastiness of the limestone soils. It represents a superb value and a great introduction to the Monastrell from Alicante; the price is hard to believe. There are some 50,000 bottles from this vintage."

"The humble veteran Bruce McGuire has been making Syrah for decades, and this bottling offers stunning value. Lively aromas of tart black plum skins, white pepper, tar and rainy asphalt lead into a refreshingly acidic though complex sip with flavors of lavender, potpourri and blackberry juice that float across the palate."

"Refined and powerful, with concentrated flavors of green apple, ripe citrus and mineral that are deftly supported by fresh acidity. Hints of dried savory herbs show on the finish. Drink now through 2022. 3,500 cases made."

"Deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon springs from the glass with lifted crème de cassis, violets and chocolate box notes plus hints of lilacs, raspberry leaves, anise and cardamom. The perfumed black fruit preserves and chocolate-laced notes completely pack the full-bodied palate, with soft, velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing very long and very spicy. Definitely one for hedonists seeking immediate gratification."

"This is dark but not brooding, with a burst of ripe black currant and black cherry fruit shaded by licorice, spice and mint. Features grip and a lingering finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Drink now through 2020. 15,000 cases imported."

"Supple and elegantly structured, with expressive raspberry and orange zest aromas and polished flavors that pick up depth and momentum toward a spicy finish framed by refined tannins. Drink now through 2023. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,000 cases made."

"The 2012 Viña Real Reserva is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano from Rioja Alavesa; it fermented in stainless steel and aged in new oak barriques for 22 months with rackings every four months. I found the whole Viña Real range pretty closed and backward, serious, with moderate oak and pretty good balance. There is good ripeness without any excess or signs of heat (it was a very dry year), with some floral aromas coming out with time in the glass. Fine and elegant, quite a surprise. "

"An elegant version, with vibrant acidity and firm, assertive tannins underneath the cherry, strawberry and spice flavors. Tobacco and underbrush notes emerge as this reveals a touch of heat on the finish. Best from 2019 through 2033. 12,500 cases made."

"Deep ruby-red. Strong note of herbs, quinine and roasted red fruit on the nose. Then fresher and cleaner with lovely floral flavors of red cherry and spicy herbs. Finishes long with youthfully chewy tannins."

"Beautifully textured, in the style of a Sancerre, with no influence from the oak, with a notable absence of herbal notes, as they avoided the clones that lend those aromas. Very food friendly, this wine is about the palate rather than the nose. Awesome value."
